Aloe vera is a plant that is often grown in drier climates and belongs to the Asphodelaceae family. This plant has widely been used in health, beauty and skincare all over the world- and for great reason.
While we may have first became acquainted with Aloe vera through DIY skincare, we personally recommend using Aloe vera in natural skincare products over DIY ingredients in the long haul to ensure its quality. At Truu Skin, we never use harmful or harsh additives in our products so you can be worry-free that your skin will reap all the benefits nature has to offer. ✧
Reason #1- It contains antioxidant properties
"It contains vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E, which are antioxidants. It also contains vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline. Antioxidant neutralizes free radicals" (Saple and Surjushe, 2008). If you have ever familiarized yourself with free radicals, you will understand its negative effects on the skin and body. Free radicals are extremely unstable, due to an electron that is absent in its outer shell. Because of this missing electron, free radicals do their damage by stealing electrons anywhere in the body, including our skin cells. Damage from free radicals can also affect the DNA and lipids inside of our bodies.
By aloe vera containing antioxidant properties, you can take preventative steps in your skincare routine to protect your skin, health & body.
Who knew moisturizing could be so important? ✧
Reason #2- It helps to soothe + relieve dry & irritated skin
Maybe you can remember a summer beach day that ended in sunburnt or irritated skin and your skin being soothed by the cool feel of Aloe vera gel.
Aloe vera can come in various forms- extracts, juice, gel, powder, oil, etc. (Our Hyper Serum contains Aloe vera oil ✧)
"Glucomannan, a mannose-rich polysaccharide, and gibberellin, a growth hormone, interacts with growth factor receptors on the fibroblast, thereby stimulating its activity and proliferation, which in turn significantly increases collagen synthesis after topical and oral Aloe vera" (Saple and Surjushe, 2008).
"Mucopolysaccharides help in binding moisture into the skin. Aloe stimulates fibroblast which produces the collagen and elastin fibers making the skin more elastic and less wrinkled. It also has cohesive effects on the superficial flaking epidermal cells by sticking them together, which softens the skin" (Saple and Surjushe, 2008)
It's always a great idea to grab a product that contains Aloe vera for relieving that itchy, irritated sensation when it comes to dry skin- we also love the benefits of Aloe vera for most all skin types.
Reason #3- Helps with Acne
Aloe vera also has anti-inflammatory + anti-bacterial properties, which is great for inflamed acne.
